Game of Thrones Final Season Might Not Be Until 2019

Game of Thrones Final Season Might Not Be Until 2019

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, HBO’s Programming President, Casey Bloys (pictured) suggested that the final season of Game of Thrones might not be out until 2019. Bloys confirmed that would it take show writers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss “about a year and a half” to complete Season Eight, but that he would have a better sense of the timing when they were further along with their writing process. If Bloys is correct in his estimation, this means that after Season Seven this July, Game of Thrones will take a year off from television before returning for its final season. Although this approach is...

THE DEUCE Debuts September 10, 2017

Hey, you are either a David Simon fan or you’re not and if you are then you are happy to know that his latest, THE DEUCE, has announced a premiere date and a tease for us. But first, let’s get up to speed. As you can see if you follow the link we have been tracking this work since July of 2015. After the HBO Miniseries SHOW ME A HERO played well Mr. Simon pitched a few ideas and THE DEUCE stuck and a pilot was granted. James Franco was onboard early and the fast track to series was set. Now, we learn straight from a press release that the series has a premiere date of 09.1.17. Here is the copy: HBO has confirmed the debut date for the...

The Leftovers: “The Most Powerful Man in the World (and his Identical Twin Brother)”

The Leftovers: “The Most Powerful Man in the World (and his Identical Twin Brother)”

Over the course of season three, there has been a massive increase in The Leftovers discussions across social media and even amongst my dinner conversations with friends and family. There seems to be a great divide between those that viewed The Leftovers as “more believable” and tonally serious in season one compared to seasons two and three. There is no doubt The Leftovers has crossed expansive genre tropes in its reinvention, but in the grand scheme of things, this is something to have been expected of the series, and the somber tone of The Leftovers has never been short of relentless. The Garveys and those close to them were reborn...

Movie Review: “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”

Movie Review: “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children”

Many of the movie reviews I have done over the past couple years have had a book that preceded the film and in most cases, I have read the book.  Or at least, I read the book if I was interested. (Sorry, Bourne series.)  This was the first time I have been unable to read the book before watching the film and was disappointed by that fact.  But having heard about the interesting story behind the book, I pushed aside my habit of being a book stickler and checked this film out. Written by Ransom Riggs, this book follows the adventure of Jacob Portman as he discovers the stories his grandpa told him in his childhood were actually real. After...

Silicon Valley: “Customer Service”

Silicon Valley: “Customer Service”

With Gavin Belson out of the picture, “Customer Service” begins oddly tranquil. That is, however, until Russ Hanneman pulls into Richard’s driveway in his signature bright orange McLaren. Hanneman is depicted in his usual egotistical and arrogant manner, as he scolds Richard for taking “our idea” to Gavin Belson. I find it interesting how the moment Gavin Belson leaves Richard’s life, Hanneman finds a way to come right back involved, leaving the viewer to wonder which character is the more deplorable of the two. However, with Hanneman now unwilling to fund Pied Piper, Richard realizes that there is not a single VC in town that is...

What’s On: HBO Schedule For June 2017

What’s On: HBO Schedule For June 2017

The situation is a little tricky this time around. The checklist I use to generate this post monthly is an HBO Press Release that easily spells out the highlights for the coming month. That article is AWOL going into Memorial Day weekend. Maybe, it will surface afterward but that leaves a small window to get this post published. So I’m winging it and just hope I don’t miss anything. Here is What’s On.   Original Series: THE LEFTOVERS concludes its eight-episode, third and final season SUNDAY, JUNE 04 (9:00-10:30pm). That’s not a typo; it takes an hour and a half to draw an end to this gut-wrenching and acclaimed series. All we...

Movie Review: “Storks”

Movie Review: “Storks”

A movie for all! We’ve all heard the old tale, Storks deliver babies…THE END! But did you ever ask yourself, why did they stop delivering babies? Well, wonder no more! Here’s what happened… You see, a stork named Jasper decided he wanted to keep a baby instead of delivering it. At that time, the boss, Hunter (voiced by Kelsey Grammer), decided there was no longer a future in delivering babies. You see the risk was far too great! In the midst of chaos, the baby’s address was lost and Jasper (voiced by Danny Trejo) flew away. Without any address or idea of what to do next, they decided to keep the baby, Tulip, and switch to the...

Digital Animated Series Not Going Forward For Jon Stewart on HBO

Digital Animated Series Not Going Forward For Jon Stewart on HBO

It should come as no surprise, due to its extra-long gestation period, that John Stewart’s state of the art animation project is not going forward. We reported back in November of 2015 about it for the first time knowing that the attempt to bring something different would take time but, in 05.10.16 we were still waiting. In the end, it looks like the powers behind the project just couldn’t figure it all out to get Stewart on air. It should come as no surprise, due to its extra-long gestation period, that Jon Stewart’s state of the art animation project is not going forward. We reported back in November of 2015 about it for the first...

Andy Samberg’s TOUR DE PHARMACY Gets Premiere Date & Trailer

Andy Samberg’s TOUR DE PHARMACY Gets Premiere Date & Trailer

Andy Samberg (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) returns to HBO with yet another sports mockumentary. You may recall he poked fun at professional tennis with Kit Harrington (GAME OF THRONES) in 7 DAYS IN HELL and now returns skewering professional cycling. Here straight from an HBO Press Release are details of TOUR DE PHARMACY.   TOUR DE PHARMACY, HBO SPECIAL PRESENTATION FROM ANDY SAMBERG AND MURRAY MILLER, DEBUTS JULY 8 In 1982, during a dark and fictitious time in cycling history, the sport’s most venerable, time-honored race was marred by the doping of virtually all of its competitors. Riddled with nefarious characters, that year’s...

Silicon Valley: “The Blood Boy”

Silicon Valley: “The Blood Boy”

Jumping right in, Richard learns that there’s more to having to work with Gavin Belson than garages within garages or pools on yachts. He still has to deal with the blood boy. The introduction of the “transfusion associate” was awkward, to say the least. Erlich convinces Monica that Laurie’s baby shower is nothing but a ruse to form a coup against Laurie. I can’t help but see his point because, besides Monica and Laurie, there isn’t another woman in attendance. I don’t think I’ve seen a “baby shower” like it. The blood boy is invited to overstep his bounds by Gavin by giving his opinion on how to launch the peer-to-peer...

The Leftovers: “Certified”

The Leftovers: “Certified”

Continuing to delve deeper into the human psyche, this week’s episode of The Leftovers display pain and trauma. The Sudden Departure did many things to many people: but most notably, we get an episode dedicated to Laurie Garvey and the pain she was forced to endure when the Departure took place. We get some insight into why she is the way she is. And it’s pretty sad. This episode sees Laurie, Matt, John, Michael, Nora, Garvey Sr. and Grace all gathering around a table to have a meal together. To the naked eye, it’s just a group of folks having a bite to eat, talking and spending time together. However, we know that this is no ordinary...

THE WIZARD OF LIES Does Well For HBO

THE WIZARD OF LIES Does Well For HBO

Evidently, people were interested in figuring out Bernie Madoff and family. The HBO Films presentation THE WIZARD OF LIES debuted on Saturday, May 20th at 8:00pm and did well in the numbers. 1.5 million (that is a small number concerning Bernie deals in billions) viewers for its debut date. But totaling up multiple airings and the streaming sites (HBONow/Go) the first weekend had 2.4 million viewers tuning in. That is good numbers for the premium network. To put it in comparison THE IMMORTAL LIFE OF HENRIETTA LACKS starring Oprah Winfrey and Rose Byrne, which premiered on 04.22 had a debut viewership of 1.1 million. That puts THE WIZARD OF...

HBO Films: THE WIZARD OF LIES Review

HBO Films: THE WIZARD OF LIES Review

Okay, we know that the story of Bernie Madoff and his Ponzi scheme is kind of old news by now. With all the news coverage, special reports and the like we got the story a number of years ago, including being schooled on what a Ponzi scheme even was. However, the story still looms large and people are still shocked by it and HBO isn’t even the only one that was eager to delve into Bernie Madoff nine years later. ABC presented his story in 2016 as a miniseries starring Richard Dreyfuss. HBO now takes its turn with Robert De Niro in the role. Quite honestly, this writer was only interested in THE WIZARD OF LIES because it was on HBO (and I...

The Great War is Here: Game of Thrones Season 7 Trailer Drops

The Great War is Here: Game of Thrones Season 7 Trailer Drops

It’s been a long wait, but HBO has finally released the first trailer for Season Seven of Game of Thrones. The new, and penultimate season of the award-winning HBO show will premiere on July 16th, and from what we tell from the trailer, its going to be nothing short of amazing. Last summer, Game of Thrones ended dramatically with Cersei Lannister sitting on the Iron Throne, Jon Snow hailed as King in the North, and Daenerys Targaryen finally headed to Westeros to reclaim her right to rule.  Now, Season Seven looks to explore the consequences of each major character’s rise to power, and the ensuing clashes that will determine...
