Marta Kauffman, of such works as HBO’s DREAM ON and also Friends, Joey and Grace & Frankie & has Natalie Portman slated for the miniseries WE ARE ALL COMPLETELY BESIDE OURSELVES for HBO. Through her Okay Goodnight production company she has snagged the rights to the Karen Joy Fowler novel and apparently quickly got Portman interested.
“We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves” is a twisty tale centered on university student Rosemary Cooke (Portman), whose complex and unusual upbringing is marred by the unexpected disappearance of a “twin sister” at the age of 5. Christopher Monger, the Emmy nominated co-writer of HBO’s TEMPLE GRANDIN, has the writing duties while executive producer duties fall to Kauffman and Robbie Tollin along with Portman and Homeland co-creator Gideon Raff. No director has been listed. We draw it to your attention as a solo post because we thought it nice that Natalie Portman, of Black Swan, Star Wars franchise and the upcoming Jackie, would be a nice talent to see on HBO’s screen. Do you agree?
The source material’s plot, according to Good Reads goes like this –
Meet the Cooke family. Our narrator is Rosemary Cooke. As a child, she never stopped talking; as a young woman, she has wrapped herself in silence: the silence of intentional forgetting, of protective cover. Something happened, something so awful she has buried it in the recesses of her mind. Now her adored older brother is a fugitive, wanted by the FBI for domestic terrorism. And her once lively mother is a shell of her former self, her clever and imperious father now a distant, brooding man. And Fern, Rosemary’s beloved sister, her accomplice in all their childhood mischief? Fern’s is a fate the family, in all their innocence, could never have imagined.
As always we will track how this develops, but in the meantime if you want to read it first one place to get it is here.
