People_JackBlackHBO has given a series order to the comedy THE BRINK which will star Jack Black and Tim Robbins.  HBOWatch started looking at this work back on 10.05.13 when we announced that director Jay Roach was in a deal to develop a comedy for HBO. We then again referenced it back on 11.14.13 where we announced Jack Black and Tim Robbins were the leads cast for the pilot. 12.16.13 was the last time we mentioned it as Esai Morales was cast. It appears that HBO liked that pilot with those actors onboard as the show is now coming to the channel. Again, it is directed by Jay Roach and produced by Jerry Weintraub.

Deadline.com reported a bit of behind-the-scenes news for this quickly picked up project.

The Brink’s road to HBO’s primetime started with an email Weintraub received while in Europe, which contained the Benabib brothers’ (Roberto and Kim) script. “I read it and I fell in love with it,” Weintraub said. When he came back to Los Angeles, Weintraub had lunch with Roach about a movie project where Roach mentioned that he had been looking to do a half-hour comedy. Weintraub ran to his office and brought Roach The Brink script.

TPeople_TimRobbinsHE BRINK is described as an epic dark comedy focusing on a geopolitical crisis and its effect on three disparate and desperate men: U.S. Secretary of State Walter Hollander, lowly Foreign Service officer Alex Coppins and ace Navy fighter pilot Zeke Callahan. These three compromised souls must pull through the chaos around them to save the planet from World War III.

It seems HBO is determined to find some comedies that will last on the channel. We lost ENLIGHTENED, EASTBOUND AND DOWN, FAMILY TREE and HELLO LADIES and are giving LOOKING and SILICON VALLEY a try alongside the two healthiest half hours GIRLS and VEEP. Good luck to THE BRINK as it heads into production. We will keep track of its progress.

*Fingers crossed* that this comes to fruition. My husband likes Jack Black because he is so cooky and has a very off the wall sense of humour. (Just watch Nacho Libre) For me, it’s seeing Tim Robbins. He has had some of the best roles in Hollywood. Good to see him in this up coming series!
