Want to watch live Girls online?!… No, not THOSE kind of online Girls… HBO’s Girls! America’s preeminent show about millennial females making their way through the New York City scene is going strong and no one expects this train to stop any time soon. But any millennial ladies just aren’t equipped with the same home theater setups and cable packages their aging parents were locked into. For them, it makes more sense to watch Girls on the go, streaming on the subway, all on their own time schedule.
There are a few different ways to get Girls on the go so let us walk you through them.
Girls on Netflix? How about Hulu?
The short answer to this question is: No. HBO shows generally aren’t found on traditional all-in-one streaming packages charging 9.99 or less. A subscription to HBO itself costs around 16 bucks so, when you think about it this wouldn’t really work in HBO’s favor to offer their shows on services like Netflix or Hulu. There’s also been a bit of bad blood between Netflix and HBO in particular as of late as both companies move into similar original content spaces (though HBO still clearly has the upper hand in that department at the moment).
So no, your Netflix subscription won’t get you access Girls online.
Pay Per Episode Options
One great option is to download individual episodes of Girls to your myriad devices through your favorite download service. For example iTunes offers an entire season for around $35 with episodes costing around $3. Another option would be Google’s Play service. Prices are similar to iTunes (actually a bit cheaper at the time of this writing so be sure to check them all out!). Is Amazon more to your tastes? Girls is available for streaming on Amazon Instant as well.
These are a great option for those on the Go who don’t have an HBO subscription, live in another country or just want to own the episodes in digital formats for whatever reason (offline play, collecting etc).
Watch Live Girls with Sling Premium
Sling is a cable alternative that doesn’t require much more than $20 a month to get most of your favorite channels. This doesn’t include HBO or Girls, though and you’ll have to add $15 to that if you want to watch Girls live that way.
You can sign up or explore the service more here. There’s a 7-Day free trial so this might be a nice alternative if you just want to give it a chance.
Older HBO Shows are Streaming on Amazon Prime
If you’re an Amazon Prime member and you’re trying to watch an older HBO show like The Sopranos or Sex and the City stop what you’re doing and head over there now because older HBO shows stream free with a Prime subscription. Girls isn’t there yet but you get a free month when you sign up so there’s really no excuse not to when you factor in the free shipping on Amazon stuff as well as the large streaming video library. Give it a try.
DVD and Blu-Ray Discs (With Digital Downloads Included)
The good news is that HBO includes digital downloads with every recent DVD and Blu-Ray release so you’ll have access to BOTH versions if you buy those discs. The bad news is that HBO typically waits an entire year before releasing the previous seasons episodes on Blu-Ray and DVD. But if time isn’t of the essence be sure to check out Girls on DVD and Blu-Ray. This may be the best choice for those collectors out there or people who like to share. Buy the discs and give the digital versions away or visa versa! Not a bad option here if you’re patient and don’t need to watch Girls online immediately after they air.
HBO Go is King Over All Girls
As with all HBO series online HBO Go is the best way to stream Girls online free. And by free we mean free with your HBO subscription. Check out our guide to HBO Go which tracks the latest devices that are able to use HBO Go and walks you through what you’ll need to make it work. But keep in mind that for now you’ll need a normal cable subscription with HBO added in. That may change in the future but for now HBO Go is great if you’ve got a login!
We hope that gets you to where you need to go! Getting Girls online couldn’t be easier… wait… that just sounded awkward.
