2016Emmyposter-200x300HBO may not have taken many more Emmys, to add to the 16 it won at the Creative Emmys on 09.11, but it grabbed some of the top categories once again. It makes its total stand at twenty-two wins, with FX following with eighteen. Here is the quick list of wins from the 09.18 event hosted by Jimmy Kimmel on ABC.

HBO won the two top honors once again and that is a record in itself. The Outstanding Drama Series is GAME OF THRONES and Outstanding Comedy Series goes to VEEP. They held that title last year as well and HBO the only network in the past 40 years (NBC with Cheers & Hill Street Blues) to take both top shows. It also makes GOT the most awarded scripted series in Emmy history with 38 wins. Also receiving tops in its category was LAST WEEK TONIGHT WITH JOHN OLIVER for Outstanding Variety Talk Series.

Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series goes to Miguel Sapochnik for the “Battle of the Bastards” episode of GAME OF THRONES. Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series went to David Benioff and D. B. Weiss for the “Battle of the Bastards” episode from GAME OF THRONES.

Outstanding LGOTEmmyWin-300x169ead Actress in a Comedy Series honors for the fifth time went to VEEP’s Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Selina Meyer.

Yes, that means SILICON VALLEY and LEMONADE didn’t receive an award. Neither did supporting actor nominees, Tony Hale, Matt Walsh, Anna Chulmsky, Kit Harington, Peter Dinklage or Niecy Nash, Laurie Metcalfe, Emilia Clarke, Lena Heady or Maisie Williams (curse that Dame Maggie Smith!). Also FX’s People Vs. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story and PBS’ Sherlock: made sure ALL THE WAY and CONFIRMATION did not receive wins in the Limited Series or TV Movie categories.

But walking away with the trophy for Best Drama, Comedy and Variety Talk Series, plus nineteen more awards is quite an accomplishment to be proud of for the network. And subscribers to HBO and/or its streaming sites via various devices get to watch it all! Enjoy the winner’s work and stick around for the outstanding programming destined to be nominated, if not win, next year from the talents at HBO.
