The call to arms for TIME’S UP is still going strong and calling out abusers/offenders across all walks of life and across the country. The entertainment industry and Hollywood have been hit the hardest and has even affected HBO. We’ve reported that Louis C. K. content has been purged from HBO’s platforms, but that Jeremy Piven’s ENTOURAGE has not and that Mark Halperin has been dropped from his writing obligation also due to inexcusable acts. Now James Franco of THE DEUCE is under scrutiny for inappropriate behavior.

Especially since walking away from the Golden Globes with an award tucked under his arm last week the actor, seen in two roles in HBO’s THE DEUCE as well as executive producer of same, has been accused of misconduct from actress Ally Sheedy and others. Since the allegations have arisen HBO felt it save to claim that –

“We have verified that no complaints about Mr. Franco have come in on The Deuce production.”

Show creator Dave Simon verified that statement saying to Variety

“I’m still reading it the same as everyone else, trying to discern what is or isn’t there. Personally I can only speak knowledgeably to ‘The Deuce.’ I’ve checked with all my fellow producers and other personnel. We have no complainant or complaint or any awareness of any incident of concern involving Mr. Franco. Nor has HBO been approached with any complaint. In our experience, he was entirely professional as an actor, director, and producer.”

James Franco had quite a bit to say on the matter on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert just recently. In part he said –

[the accusations] “are not accurate. I have no idea what I did to Ally Sheedy. I had nothing but a great time with her. I have total respect for her. In my life, I pride myself in taking responsibility for things I’ve done. I have to do that to maintain my well-being. I do it whenever something needs to be changed. If I have done something wrong, I will fix it — I have to. That’s how that works. I don’t know what else to do.”

What does that mean for THE DEUCE? Well, we already know that it has been renewed for a Season Two and that it would be difficult to write out the Martino Brothers’ side of the story. To date HBO is standing by the series and Franco’s contribution.

I only care that James Franco can continue ‘The Deuce’. It is about a time I know. It is beautifully written, and produced in the raw image style which reminds me so much of that time. Franco is a great talent. On with the show!!!! I can hardly wait till Season 3 is on. BRING IT. And yes, I’m a female, college educated and white. LOL

THE DEUCE is in front of the cameras with James Franco in taking on both of his roles for Season Two.

The problem is that the whole #MeToo and #Time’sUp, hashtagged pseudo-movements have become less than an effort to help victims and address issues surrounding sexual abuse, rape violence and inequality in the workplace, and turned instead into more of a sleazy, tabloid, gossipy driven “gotcha” parade, unde the guise of a morality/let’s get even crusade, where due process and innocent until proven guilty are an afterthought at best, if that. This is mob justice by way of social media! Yay!

It has become a case of “uhhhh let’s see who is next” Russian roulette, which in turn must make Vegas bookies quite happy to take odds on who will be the next one to bite the dust…

This way all celebrities can wash their hands with smug self-absolution and Oprah can give an “historic speech” (about as empty and full of platitudes as a McDonald’s happy meal) at the Golden Globes…hey have you heard…she is all but certain to run for the presidency? Why not skip all the campaigning and voting stuff and crown her already! Because having a reality TV star in the White House has worked out great so far…

This is what happens when hypocrisy and self-righteousness get together and have a baby.

I hear what you’re saying and in some ways, you’re not wrong. But don’t write off the entire movement as worthless. You’re a bit too flippant here. Some really bad actors (phrasing intentional) have been exposed because of #MeToo and men, rightfully so, should be more scared to commit these crimes moving forward. Hopefully HBO keeps a steady hand and an open ear on this one and any others that pop up (and they probably will pop up).
