HBO has just given a pilot order to a Cold War era spy drama entitled THE MISSIONARY. Up for the lead in the project is Aaron Paul probably best known for his award-winning turn in AMC’s Breaking Bad. The lead character is described simply as a missionary in the 1960’s who gets involved in the CIA and the spy game in the hotbed city of Berlin. Screenwriter Charles Randolph and New Yorker writer and author Malcolm Gladwell had been fostering a concept and are now writing the piece.
The production team behind the show is quite familiar with HBO. Producers Stephen Levinson and Mark Wahlberg, who have already brought BOARDWALK EMPIRE, IN TREATMENT, HOW TO MAKE IT IN AMERICA and ENTOURAGE to the channel, will bring the espionage packed series to life. Actor Paul is no stranger to HBO either as he appeared as Sarah Hendrickson’s husband on BIG LOVE.
We’ll have more on this new HBO series as news breaks.
