true-blood-season-5-spoilers-300x205The debut dates for the new seasons of the HBO series TRUE BLOOD and THE NEWSROOM have been confirmed.

The 12-episode fifth season of TRUE BLOOD will kick off SUNDAY, JUNE 10 at 9:00 p.m. (ET/PT). Based on the popular Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris, this Emmy®-nominated hit drama series was created by Alan Ball, creator of HBO’s Emmy®-winning series “Six Feet Under.” The show follows waitress and part-faerie Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who can hear people’s thoughts, vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) and vampire Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård).

THE NEWSROOM kicks off its ten-episode season SUNDAY, JUNE 24 at 10:00 p.m. (ET/PT). This new series centers on a cable news anchor (Jeff Daniels), his new executive producer (Emily Mortimer), his newsroom staff (John Gallagher, Jr., Alison Pill, Thomas Sadoski, Dev Patel, Olivia Munn) and their boss (Sam Waterston). Together they set out on a patriotic and quixotic mission to do the news well in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal relationships. Aaron Sorkin created the series and executive produces along with Scott Rudin and Alan Poul.

We’ve updated our HBO Schedule with the latest news.  What will you be doing this June?

I’m a whole season behind on TRUE BLOOD myself. Hey, it is hard to watch everything on the channel. Now that I have a target date in sight and HBOGO in favorites I’ll have to get at catching up.

I have a feeling, however, that NEWSROOM will be watched live each week; even on vacation if I can help it. I am looking forward to it indeed.

I think the Newsroom hype is really underplayed. If it were called “The West Wing 2”.. a show that won emmys every single year.. even beating out HBO! If it were related to that show more often I think people would be flipping the heck out right now.

Excited for The Newsroom. I’ll be watching True Blood as well, despite the fact that the only redeeming quality about it is Deborah Ann Woll.

Ha! Well True Blood is a fun Summer thing for a lot of people. It’s supposed to be a bit fluff-heavy and self indulgent, right?

Meh, to each their own of course. But I’ve always found it to be utter garbage, and without a doubt HBO’s worst drama series among the ones I’ve seen.

Why do I watch it, then? Because I’m a sick, twisted person who likes to torture myself, I suppose.
