News from Deadline.com today is that Oscar winner Goldie Hawn is out of the comedy pilot for THE VIAGRA DIARIES. I gather she was unhappy on how tasks were proceeding the report states that HBO declined to comment on Hawn’s departure, but that “there have been rumors about Hawn being difficult in her dealings with the rest of the people involved in the project and in the casting process. ‘Bridesmaids’’ Wendi McLendon-Covey is the only actor besides Hawn cast in the pilot so far; the husband role is yet to be filled after a number of actors read with Hawn for it.”
The piece also stated, however, that the project, which was created by Darren Star (“Sex and the City”) and is being directed by “Bridesmaids” director Paul Feig, is going forward, with HBO searching for an actress to take over the lead role. The project is based on a book by Barbara Rose Brooker and is build around a woman whose husband leaves her. She then struggles with being alone after 35 years of marriage.
Now isn’t that a shame! HBO fans love to see the right big names in a good project don’t they? They now have Steve Buscemi and Dustin Hoffman on the channel after all. Plus, hasn’t Goldie Hawn been off the radar for quite a while? This could have been a good acting gig for her but I guess it just didn’t work out. It is not an uncommon to see deals fall through. HBOWATCH will stay close to the project to see who replaces Goldie Hawn. So, when we know, you’ll know.
