HBO sent a press-release today with the official episode title, description, and airdates for the premiere of Game of Thrones Season Three. Also included is a list of new characters, recurring roles, and a background on where they story stands thus far.

As season three begins, the Lannisters hold absolute dominion over King’s Landing after repelling Stannis Baratheon’s forces. Yet Robb Stark, King in the North, still controls much of the South as well, and has yet to lose a battle. In the Far North, Mance Rayder has united the wildlings into the largest army Westeros has ever seen. Only the Night’s Watch stands between him and the Seven Kingdoms, but nobody knows what happened to its Lord Commander and the force he led beyond the Wall.
Across the Narrow Sea, Daenerys Targaryen – reunited with her three growing dragons – ventures into Slaver’s Bay in search of ships to take her home and allies to conquer it.

Going to be hard enough to follow the 15+ “main” characters let alone Barristan the Bold and Roose Bolton.
Ummm, Ian McElhinney (Barristan Selmy) and Michael McElhatton (Roose Bolton) are both recurring/returning
I was confused about that too, but it turns out that their status has simply been “upped”. They are no longer recurring cast members (which implies that they only feature briefly, take a look at who is listed under this category above to see what I mean). They are now “cast members”, which means we’ll be seeing more of them!
