Game-of-Thrones-Season-2-Character-Guide-300x245So, it’s been a little while since we’ve posted an article about the production for  the third season of Game of Thrones. Since there was some interesting stuff that came out over the weekend, I thought it was time to update our readers on what’s happening. There are a few major spoilers at the end of this post so beware! But for now, we can dive into some news that non-book readers can enjoy.

Croatia is a Wrap and Now on to  Morocco

First off, filming in Dubrovnik, Croatia wrapped up over the weekend and the crew is now off to Morocco.  Dubrovnik has been used as the location for King’s Landing and cast/crew has been on-location the past few weeks. Local press in the city has snapped numerous photos of the set and actors, as well as scored an interview with show-runners Dan Benioff and D.B. Weiss. By looking at the pics, Dubrovnik seems to be an absolutely beautiful set location and it’s no surprise the crew fights over who gets to go there. Hell, I would too. Also, considering I can’t find any evidence of this scene being in the books, it looks to be something new that the writers have added. If anyone knows of this scene in aSoS, please leave a comment and let me know.

Most of the photos were taken during filming on a small pier and mostly feature Sansa, Shae, Littlefinger, and Ros. Here are a few of the better ones:

(By the way, how funny is it to see a Gold Cloak holding a pink umbrella? That cracks me up.)

Hands Off Jaime..

The most interesting tidbit of information that I saw over the weekend has to with Jaime Lannister and a certain missing appendage. Yes, that’s right. THE HAND!! What was already suspected has now been confirmed with a picture of Jaime and Brienne clearly showing his sword hand missing. Of course, this isn’t much of a surprise as the loss of his hand drastically changes Jaime’s character, so it obviously couldn’t be re-written. However, there wasn’t any confirmation – until now – on whether this event would happen in Season Three or not. Exactly at what point it will happen next season is still up in the air, but rest-assured, he will be hand-less at some point in Season Three.

Red Wedding

We recently posted an article about another wedding confirmed to have been filmed, but it wasn’t the wedding most fans think of first.

According to this casting call from Extras NI, the company that handles extras for Game of Thrones, they are seeking medieval-looking cellists to work from October 15 – 19. They are also seeking leg amputees who are “OK and comfortable with filming a scene within the context of a battle where your leg has been injured. Prosthetic makeup will be applied as though your leg has newly been severed.” God, I love this show!!

While the casting call didn’t specifically state Game of Thrones, it’s not too hard to put two-and-two together here. Of course, this means that the Red Wedding WILL happen in Season Three. George R.R. Martin publicly stated recently that he may need to “hide out” for a little while after a certain episode. This was the first big clue that the Red Wedding would be included, but the casting call merely adds what everyone already was speculating. Additionally, the GoT fan-site WinterIsComing.net is reporting that the scene will be filmed over the next two weeks, starting with exterior shots and then moving to Paint Hall studios for the interiors.

Given this event happens somewhat around the middle of book three, I would assume it will be in the final few epsiodes, probably the finale. We all knew this was coming, but damn it still burns doesn’t it? Wow. It’s going to be crazy seeing this on-screen.

Also, if that wasn’t assurance enough, cast-member Maisie Williams tweeted out this little clue:

While she obviously didn’t give away much, the recent news doesn’t make it difficult for those who know the story to figure out what she is filming. Honestly, I cannot wait to see how this scene looks on screen. I mean, I hate to see two more Starks bite the dust, but it’s one of those scenes that should rival “The Battle of Blackwater” and “Ned’s Beheading” as one of the all-time greats. And speaking of Maisie Williams, for those who remember the part where Arya is desperately trying to run into the castle to save her family, well, that just might be the most emotional moment of the whole story for me. And I know Maisie will absolutely crush it. As long as it’s done right, it should be an abolutely incredible scene. One which will have Emmy’s falling from the sky.

Just think, the year-long wait is already half over. Winter is Coming people, and it’s starting to get exciting!! Please leave us a comment below and tell us your thoughts.

Don’t worry, I’ve seen various reports that we’ll be seeing Lysa this season, possibly in episode 7 or 8.
