Doc_HeaderHere is a quick catch up on a few items we found on the documentary front that are in HBO’s future. You are watching HBO documentaries, right?

  • Foo Fighters Announce SONIC HIGHWAYS 2

We don’t know how many of you enjoyed Foo Fighter’s SONIC HIGHWAYS but it officially becomes a documentary series as the band and HBO plan a followup season. We have confirmation on that because of comments Foo Fighter’s front man Dave Grohl gave in a video interview with NME, or New Musical Express, the weekly music magazine out of Britain. Here are those comments.

The comments don’t make clear just when all this will happen as it will take time to set up an itinerary, regardless of whether it is in the U. S. or U. K. or elsewhere. As he states it takes a chuck of time out of one’s life to set the tour, the filming and the album and all the steps in between. But either way look for more sounds from the SONIC HIGHWAYS in the future on HBO.

  • THE LATIN EXPLOSION Offers History of Latino MusicPeople_TommyMottola-206x300

THE LATIN EXPLOSION, “A history of Latin music and how it has influenced culture – beyond Latino culture, into American culture” is said to be billed the largest gathering of Latino talent ever assembled for one film. Tommy Mottola, (pictured) one time bigwig at Sony Music, is behind the creation of this documentary all about the Latino sound.

A large number of artists, many of whom worked with Mottola at Sony have signed on to the film including Jennifer Lopez, Ricky Martin, Gloria Estefan, Marc Anthony and many others. John Leguizamo does voice-over narration for both HBO’s and HBO Latino’s versions of the work. We are expected to get a dose of Latino rhythms coming in 2016.

  • Documentary Preview of THE DIPLOMAT

People_RichardHolbrookeIt is said that sometime this fall HBO will air THE DIPLOMAT. It is a story that first surfaced at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival. It tells of the career of one time U. S. Ambassador Richard Holbrooke (pictured) as told by his filmmaker son David.

The film features interviews with world leaders including Kofi Annan, Ashraf Ghani, Madeleine Albright, Henry Kissinger, John Kerry, Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, and considers Holbrooke’s role in maintaining America’s position as both diplomatic entity and international power player, as well as the personal sacrifices made for the job. It sounds like if we want to know what it truly means to be an American diplomat this is the documentary to see. We’ll look for it. For now here is a link to a clip.

That is just a small sampling of the documentaries that HBO has forthcoming. We won’t bore the GAME OF THRONES crowd with too much. HBO will announce soon the documentaries lined up for the second half of 2015. We will announce them when they are known.

More than likely it does mean another album. But it all sounds so rather vague when Sonic Highways II may happen.

Hey, I always felt that the documentary content was just as interesting as the series content.
