Remember Amy Jellicoe? She is the conflicted lady played by Laura Dern who is out to empower herself towards a meaningful life and improve the world around her. As Season One of ENLIGHTENED proved that is not an easy task on either front.
That 10 episode season had us meet Amy and her mother Helen (played by Dern’s real mom Diane Ladd) who she moved back in with after rehab from a mental breakdown. She also braves going back into her workplace, Abbadon Industries, and seeing old friends, rivals and even an ex-lover Levi( played by Luke Wilson). By season’s end we learned that Levi was somewhat of a wreck himself and that Amy didn’t really want to surround herself in that element anymore but, Levi swears he’ll change for her. On the work front she sets in motion a revolt to clean up the negativity that abounds there.
Now we await Season Two which will premiere another 10 episodes beginning 01.13.13 at 9:30pm right behind Season Two of GIRLS. Here is the promised Season Two Trailer.
ENLIGHTENED, though not a huge ratings success, has many fans who appreciate the unique storytelling this show offers. It is not a bold comedy but an interesting discussion that is written by talent Mike White who also appears as the character Tyler. HBOWatch has reported Delmont Mulroney and Molly Shannon have recurring roles this coming season. So get ready to be ENLIGHTENED. Can Amy make a difference in the lives of others and still keep it together herself? We will find out starting January 13th.

I just watched the Season 1 Marathon on HBO Canada and I’m HOOKED. I love how it’s both poignant and uncomfortable and HILARIOUS… just like life.
I LOVE this show. Can’t wait for the new season!!!!
I’m really happy for this notice and waiting for the season 2 of enlightened. Thanks HBO, Laura Dern and Mike White :)
Laura Dern’s “real life” mother is Diane LADD not Diane LANE, Unless Diane Lane, at the ripe old age of 2, moved from New York to LA and gave birth to a little girl of her own.
Thanks, your snarky comment made me chuckle and made me correct my post. Get ENLIGHTENED!
