David Chase Annoyed by THE SOPRANOS Question About Tony’s Last Scene

David Chase Annoyed by THE SOPRANOS Question About Tony’s Last Scene

We know, we know, this is old news already. We just decided to wait until the flap died down to take a look at the situation surrounding David Chase’s comment that THE SOPRANOS big boss man Tony Soprano was alive at series’ end. For anyone interested we will recall the incident and then shed light on the matter as to what is all means. From the start this writer was pretty elated about the news. In the post that started all the hubub Vox writer Martha Nochimson reminded us all of the final family gathering and the abrupt “cut to black” that ended the series in June of 2007. This is what she writes –   I had been talking with...

Game of Thrones Supplants The Sopranos as HBO’s Most Watched Series Ever

Game of Thrones Supplants The Sopranos as HBO’s Most Watched Series Ever

It was only a matter of time. Each season HBO’s Game of Thrones took on more and more viewers. The trend lines looked unstoppable and unbelievable, frankly. But today,as its fourth season winds down Game of Thrones has officially supplanted The Sopranos as HBO’s most watched series of all time.  We took a look at the overall stats a while back but here are the numbers if you’re interested: Note that the “total audience” numbers are different from those represented above when including encore showings, HBO Go watchers, etc. The advent of HBOGo may be one of the reasons The Sopranos has been usurped, in fact....

The Sopranos Complete Series Coming to Blu-Ray This Fall

The Sopranos Complete Series Coming to Blu-Ray This Fall

The wait is finally over. One of HBO’s biggest, most popular and certainly most award winning series of all time is headed to Blu-Ray to be “made”.  And by made we mean: given the gangster treatment (and that’s a good thing in this case). The Hollywood Reporter was given the news first that The Sopranos Complete Set on Blu-Ray would be arriving in a special package this fall, November 4th.  Just in time for the holidays. The MSRP will be set at around $280.  We’ve updated our Sopranos on Blu-Ray and DVD page to reflect this change. According to THR the bonus features will be gangster as well: Included in the...

JAMES GANDOLFINI: A TRIBUTE TO A FRIEND

JAMES GANDOLFINI: A TRIBUTE TO A FRIEND

In a fast 35-minute piece HBO, family and friends of James Gandolfini saluted a man they clearly felt was beyond measure. Though I won’t go into detail of every moment shown I will break down the seven segments this tribute was made up of as it describes the late actor. ** He was THE GUY shares with us that even in the early days of THE SOPRANOS James G. was the charismatic magnet that held it all together. Steven van Zandt shares that he, as a newcomer into acting, was quickly respected by Gandolfini and everyone else fell into line afterwards. ** It Looks Like MAGIC and it was when Gandolfini acted. A number of people noted how he...

In this special presentation, JAMES GANDOLFINI: TRIBUTE TO A FRIEND, more than two dozen friends and co-workers remember the three-time Emmy winner, who died 06.19.13 at age 51. Along with first-person reflections, the special features clips of Gandolfini’s work, as well as behind-the-scenes footage. Surely some of the cast of THE SOPRANOS will be present and some clips from the show will be seen. VEEP’s Julia Loius-Dreyfus may also be present as she...

A New Perspective on THE SOPRANOS’ Final Scene

A New Perspective on THE SOPRANOS’ Final Scene

I must admit that I am fixated on THE SOPRANOS yet again. Of course, the reasoning this time around has been because of the death of James Gandolfini on June 18. No solid reason is really needed by anyone to take in David Chase’s six season saga of Tony Soprano and his personal and professional families. It is often high on the list of fans and critics alike and always warrants a look. I’ll also admit in this piece that I have not been watching a marathon of the entire 86 episodes again but merely a small portion of them. My sole intent is to find episodes that really showcased the abilities of Mr. G. himself. There are many scenes I...

James Gandolfini – Sharing the Memories

James Gandolfini – Sharing the Memories

Sorry, I won’t take up a lot of your time but I just had to post something in tribute to James Gandolfini. Surfing the internet I found something that showcases the great actor we just lost. I give thanks to The Daily Beast (thedailybeast.com) for the following bit of Beast TV. I also thank, as all of us at HBOWatch do, the outstanding Mr. Gandolfini for his talent and his association with HBO. UPDATE: HBO just posted this small tribute video: I’m compelled by one more clip: the Final Scene from THE SOPRANOS. Fade To...

Writers Guild Names THE SOPRANOS “The Best Written Series”

Writers Guild Names THE SOPRANOS “The Best Written Series”

Now we all know that lists are just one party’s opinion of what they think is the best in whatever criteria they set. That always leaves them open for argument. Somebody else’s list is always different from the next person’s list. So take the following as you will. Both branches of the Writers Guild of America (WGAWest & WGAEast) have announced their list of the 101 Best Written TV Series of all time. It was based on the membership of the Guild casting online votes. These voters are people of the industry who write singly or collaboratively to create the shows we watch. HBO, it so happens is well represented on the list. In fact,...

David Chase Talks THE SOPRANOS

David Chase Talks THE SOPRANOS

Here are some brief comments from THE SOPRANOS creator David Chase that you might consider good news/bad news. You decide. Mr. Chase told website Showbiz 411, in an interview mainly about his big screen debut as director of a movie called Not Fade Away, that a THE SOPRANOS movie is not going to happen. Roger Friedman’s piece for the site states –   What about a “Sopranos” movie, I asked. “No, unh uh,” he said, shaking his head, and his wife even agreed. I did try to slip in–’those people are dead’–but Chase refuses to say what happened to Tony, Carmella, Meadow and AJ. That is the bad news portion of this...
