Latest News for HBO's Silicon Valley

Silicon Valley follows the lives of a handful of budding entrepreneurs in California's Silicon Valley area. The guys make their way through a bizarre, often ridiculous world of billionaires with egos, self-righteous coders and the fast paced world of software development. Created by Mike Judge of Office Space and King of the Hill fame, the series takes an irreverent look at a world that few get to experience. Will they make it to the top or stay down at the bottom of society where they've always been? As always you can watch Silicon Valley online via HBO Go. Find out if you're smart enough by watching the episodes and laughing your way through.

Silicon Valley Season Three Finale: “The Uptick”

Silicon Valley Season Three Finale: “The Uptick”

This season of Silicon Valley has been full of firings, new CEOs, and corporate shuffling. Unlike previous seasons, we went into the finale not knowing what to expect. Season One had the build up to Tech Crunch and Season Two had the pending lawsuit. This season, it felt like we were left in the dark. Even the preview of the episode was extremely vague with Richard being told off by multiple characters. Unlike Game of Thrones, Silicon Valley fans don’t tune in each episode and expect that someone is going to die. This episode, however, started with the death of the elephant, Maurice, that Gavin used for one of his demonstrations last...

Silicon Valley: “Daily Active Users”

Silicon Valley: “Daily Active Users”

This week on Silicon Valley, we learn many interesting ideas. We learn that statistics are important when launching a new program, but specific statistics are more important than others. We learn Guilfoyle is a human lie-detector. And we learn Jared is not the sweet, little innocent that he seems. While total downloads are in the multiple hundred thousands, daily active users is nowhere close to that. When you want to consider the success of your product, it isn’t who just buys it.  It is the person who buys it and then continuously uses it.  I can go buy a tube of toothpaste.  But if I don’t actually use the toothpaste, it...

Silicon Valley: “Bachman’s Earning’s Over-Ride”

Silicon Valley: “Bachman’s Earning’s Over-Ride”

Pied Piper is LIVE! Not only that, but it’s become hugely successful. We start off the episode with a Bloomberg interview of Erlich Bachman (henceforth known as Erlich Blachman according to the White Pages and Google) and Richard Hendricks. At first glance, it seems odd that Erlich is trying to steal the spotlight, especially since we know that he sold his 10% of the company. Why would he want to draw attention to himself? The only reason I could think of was Meinertzhagen’s Haversack. I guess it worked because nobody suspects that he technically has nothing to do with the company anymore. It seems to be working because it’s...

Silicon Valley: “To Build a Better Beta”

Silicon Valley: “To Build a Better Beta”

Check out last week’s review here. To release or not to release? That is the question for Richard as the beta is preparing to take its first little baby steps into the tech world.  And Bachmanity? More like Broke-manity for our pals Erlich and Bighead. Richard is waffling over whether or not to release the beta version of Pied Piper. I get his wariness.  Knowing the way things usually go for them, it is not a stretch of the imagination to think releasing the beta could be catastrophic for the company.  Things don’t usually go smoothly for the rag-tag bunch of misfits who call Pied Piper their project.  From the death of...

Silicon Valley: “Bachmanity Insanity”

Silicon Valley: “Bachmanity Insanity”

Unlike last week, this week is all about the love in the Valley. Richard meets a woman and things heat up until he burns it down. Dinesh is making googly eyes at one of the women helping them code from another country, until she gets a real look at him. Even Jared gets in on the love loop, repeatedly actually.  Go Jared!  And as always, Erlich is in love with money. With all the focus on Pied Piper, love affairs have gone to the wayside.  But when Richard meets a cute girl, he gets back into the game.  Winnie, not a bartender, knows her own way around the tech biz. But in the everlasting world of tabs versus spaces (not that I know what...

Silicon Valley: “The Empty Chair”

Silicon Valley: “The Empty Chair”

It seems that for the Pied Piper crew it is one step forward, two steps back. They are never quite able to succeed in the way they want to, however they never fail spectacularly. Many of the events the last two episodes (check out last week’s review here) have been cyclical, things we’ve seen before, which is no doubt indicative of Mike Judge’s opinion of the tech world. Things happen in the same patterns constantly, however Judge’s story manages to make the cycle seem believable, and earned. “There is no CEO” Fresh off last episode’s cliffhanger this episode begins with Richard and the crew aimlessly...

Silicon Valley: “Maleant Data Systems Solutions”

Silicon Valley: “Maleant Data Systems Solutions”

Check out the review for last weeks episode here! When we last left our heroes of Pied Piper, their secret Skunkworks plan failed before it even got started. When Jack called the four into his office, I was fully expecting the hammer to crash down on their heads. It started that way, but as if by some miracle, Richard found his testicles that his doctor checked for earlier in the season. He explained that if order for Jack to get what he wants, he can’t fire Richard and his team. It may have been the first time he stood up for his project that resulted in it actually sticking. Even more surprising is that throughout the episode, he...

Silicon Valley: “Meinertzhagen’s Haversack”

Silicon Valley: “Meinertzhagen’s Haversack”

At the beginning of the season, it appeared that the bonds that held together the main cast may become more, and more tenuous. As Pied Piper grows there is less and less of a reason for the characters to stick together, Erlich especially seemed to have his days numbered. Last Sunday’s episode managed to recreate a bond between its cast, as they are all unhappy with the development of “The Box”, and are doing whatever they can to change the direction of the company.   “I pitched it as an example of what not to do” The episode begins within a maze of servers, as you discovered exactly what will be required to allow Pied...
