HBO changes Boxing Promoters

HBO changes Boxing Promoters

HBO has ended their relationship with Golden Boy Promotions which is a company that has some of the biggest names in boxing under its care. That means some of the top names in the sport will not see bouts on HBO in the future.   That means fighters such as light heavyweight titleholder Bernard Hopkins, lightweight titleholder and rising superstar Adrien Broner, former welterweight titlist Andre Berto, top welterweight prospect Keith Thurman and heavyweight hopeful Seth Mitchell will no longer have their bouts televised at HBO. That may hurt their exposure and it may hurt the network. HBO has...

HBO Sports to Stream Live Events in 2013

HBO Sports to Stream Live Events in 2013

HBOGO has been in the news lately. A more detailed post is planned explaining potential ideas HBO has for the streaming site but for now just knowing that additional content for HBOGO is in the works is exciting. Just today, Thursday, 03.28,  HBO Sports president Ken Hershman announced that live sports events will be live-streamed on the site by the end of 2013. It was not made clear just what sort of events HBO was planning on experimenting with but the likely sport would be boxing. HBO does carry HBO WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP BOXING and B.A.D. – BOXING AFTER DARK so there are plenty of...

On the next REAL SPORTS WITH BRYANT GUMBEL on 03.19

On the next REAL SPORTS WITH BRYANT GUMBEL on 03.19

I’ve decided to give recognition to REAL SPORT WITH BRYANT GUMBEL today. After all, the 03.19 edition of the show is installment 192 in a long record of top notch sports journalism. The other reason is because the March edition features a profile of former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson. Out of the 19 seasons of this show many a great profile and debate have aired and it is just a coincidence and a shame that we finally give notice to this show now; it is not because Tyson is featured though my news sources have drawn attention to this episode because of the Tyson report. Here is a...

Hard Knocks: Miami Dolphins Season Finale Recap

Hard Knocks: Miami Dolphins Season Finale Recap

After last week’s episode, we saw the Dolphins roster cut from 90 to 75.   Usually those are the easy cuts.  When it really becomes difficult is when they make the last roster cut to get to the 53 man roster.  It means taking a really hard look at those players “on the bubble”.  Those players have one week and one game to prove they can play in the NFL.   The fourth game of the preseason is usually reserved for these players.   The starters usually don’t even suit up.  The only problem is the Dolphins need all the work they can get and Coach Philbin knows...

Hard Knocks: Miami Dolphins Episode 4 Recap

Hard Knocks: Miami Dolphins Episode 4 Recap

When we normally think of HBO, we think drama or comedy and excelling in those areas.  One area HBO has been doing amazing programming has been its Sports programs.  It was a testament to how good HBO sports is was when Mark Wahlberg used the HBO boxing crew to film scenes for his movie “The Fighter”.  It has produced some truly great sports documentaries including one of my personal favorites the “When It Was A Game” series.  HBO also created one of the first investigative sports news programs with “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel”.  The Hard Knocks...

This Just In About… HBOs HARD KNOCKS

This Just In About… HBOs HARD KNOCKS

After a number of teams have turned down the offer to be on HBO’s HARD KNOCKS and other NFL franchises openly stated that they would decline if offered and even after the Jacksonville Jaguars volunteered to be the featured team, a invited team has taken the deal. The Miami Dolphins will be the featured squad in the seventh season of the sport documentary series. The coach of the team Joe Philbin said that the decision to put the team in front of the lens was a “football decision” and that it would aid in “showing a new identity” to the fan base. The Dolphins come...

Hard Times for HBO’s HARD KNOCKS

Hard Times for HBO’s HARD KNOCKS

I just had to get out a blurb out about the latest news regarding the HBO sports program HARD KNOCKS. As you know it is a series that gives a full access behind-the scenes look at an NFL football team as it goes through Training Camp in preparation for a season of gridiron action. It often focuses on rookies and their adaptation to the pro squad as a way into the locker room and practice field. But, the show also looks at off the field personal issues and team rivalries and how that affects the team. The show has been billed as one of the fastest turnaround reality series in television...

24/7 will focus on Red Wings and Maple Leafs

24/7 will focus on Red Wings and Maple Leafs

There was no guarantee that HBO would renew 24/7, a sports series that focuses on two teams heading to the NHL’s Winter Classic.  But today we have word that HBO has asked The Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings to participate in a behind the scenes documentary focusing on how the teams operate on and off the ice.  This year’s installment featured the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Rangers and received much praise from hockey fans around the world as player’s personailities, coach’s tempers and the grittiness that is professional hockey went on...

HBO’s Next Hard Knocks Could Star Falcons

HBO’s Next Hard Knocks Could Star Falcons

ESPN is reporting that sources close to the team have indicated the Falcons may be the next team to star on HBO’s award winning sports series: Hard Knocks.  Earlier this week reports indicated that the New York Jets, with new quarterback Tim Tebow were in the running to star but sources close to the team say that HBO has yet to extend an offer to the team.  The Falcons on the other hand seem to have been offered the role but as to whether or not they’ll accept– we’ll just have to wait and see. After a 13-3 record and NFC South title in 2010, the Falcons went 10-6 in...

24/7 Finale Tonight on HBO – The Winter Classic

24/7 Finale Tonight on HBO – The Winter Classic

The first three episodes of HBO’s 24/7 have truly captivated the attentions of the mainstream sports world.  The overwhelming response HBO has gotten leads some to wonder whether or not this form of sport-watching will be that of the future.  HBO Sports is taking the act of watching a mid-season hockey game and turning it into a drama-filled event with behind the scenes looks into the players and coaches that make it all happen every night. Tonight at 10PM (check your listings/DVR to be sure) HBO will premiere the final episode in this four part series that features the New York...
