Westworld: “The Adversary”

Westworld: “The Adversary”

Westworld seems to have become one of the shows that have a fan base completely divided. A large portion of people is completely in love with the show, claiming it’s the next Game of Thrones, while others think it’s the same story told a different way. As the season continues, that line blurs a bit and we see people switch sides. Honestly, I still haven’t figured out exactly where I stand with it. Maeve (Thandie Newton)  has been my favorite since Episode One and that hasn’t changed. This episode only further solidified that. She seems to have a higher level of awareness than most of the other characters. This episode, she...

Westworld Series Premiere: “The Original”

Westworld Series Premiere: “The Original”

Directed and written by: Jonathan Nolan First off, who ever dubbed this show the new “Game of Thrones” has never actually seen it. I went in with extremely high expectations after hearing that comparrison, excited to possibly have a new favorite show to gush over every week. It didn’t exactly live up to my standard for an HBO show but it was only the first episode so I will save my compelete disregard for it until I’ve seen a few more episodes. The intro began in typical HBO fashion, similar to that of “True Blood, with the opening sequence involving a montage of creepy images. I was hoping the tone would have...

Game of Thrones: Scene of the Season (Season 6)

Game of Thrones: Scene of the Season (Season 6)

Winter is finally here. And for all of us Game of Thrones fans, the long wait begins. Until next spring, we’ll all have to content ourselves with various tidbits of information about the HBO show where ever possible. The awesome folks at HBOWatch have decided to pick their personal favorite scenes of season six and will share them with you. Beware, this post is full of spoilers! The Tower of Joy by Eleonora Iafano My personal favorite was the Tower of Joy flashback and segues into the King in the North scene. This was one of the most highly anticipated scenes of season six, and for good reason. For those that have read the books, you know...

Game of Thrones: The Best (or Worst) Moments of Season 5

Game of Thrones: The Best (or Worst) Moments of Season 5

I think there’s quite a few of of us out there still recovering from the fifth season of Game of Thrones. This post will be littered with spoilers so please be aware if you’re going to continue on. In one of our famous collaboration pieces, the writers of HBOWatch have gotten together to discuss the best (or worst, depending on your point of view) moments this season brought to us. The Doom of Valyria by Alexandra Mitchell: Valyria. It’s the mythical, magical place we’ve heard bits and pieces about since the beginning of the show. Valyrian steel can defeat white walkers. Dany speaks Old Valyrian, as House Targaryen is seated...

Game of Thrones: “Mother’s Mercy”

Game of Thrones: “Mother’s Mercy”

Everyone still alive out there? Probably not if you watched the season finale. I’m pretty sure the entire world is still recovering, myself included. I’m not sure if I’ll ever recover. It felt like a good portion of this season was slow, setting up major plot lines that will hopefully be explored later, with a few dramatic deaths and character changes thrown in for good measure. All in all, the series continued its tradition of powerful episodes for the second to last and final episodes of the season. “The Fires have melted the snow away.” Melisandre is probably my most hated character. It only becomes worse after she convinces...
