Movie Review: Winter’s Tale

Movie Review: Winter’s Tale

I watched this movie while flying down to the Dominican Republic. It was entertaining, if you enjoy historical love stories mixed with a little bit of the supernatural. It stars Colin Farrell (HBO’s True Detective), Jessica Finlay Brown (Downton Abbey), Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connolly and Will Smith. A young immigrant couple’s dreams are dashed forever when they are refused entry into the United States. They are marked with the symbol that means consumption. They know that the only chance their baby son will have to live a good life would be in America and not back home. They place the baby in a tiny little model sailboat, with the...

The Knick: “Crutchfield”

The Knick: “Crutchfield”

To say that things have hit rock bottom for some of our beloved characters on The Knick is an understatement. Season Finales often have a knack for being dramatic and gut wrenching and this episode had it all. Sister Harriet and Cleary end up helping out Cornelia with her predicament. It is with both shock, and perhaps a little relief, that Cornelia places her trust in Sister Harriet. It was my impression that Sister Harriet understood that the baby was not Phillip’s and knew that Cornelia was vulnerable. Having Sister Harriet help her through this difficult situation must have been of some comfort. We see our doomed lovers, Cornelia and...

Boardwalk Empire: “The Devil You Know”

Boardwalk Empire: “The Devil You Know”

This episode showed the demise of two men and if you were rooting for either one of those sorry chaps then this was a tough episode to watch. I guess with only two episodes left, someone had to bite the bullet. Literally. Also if you don’t want to know any more than that then don’t read ahead! Van Alden and Eli are in a really bad state: cornered by D’Angelo (who is posing as a member of Capone’s gang) and desperate to get the goods on Capone, they venture to the hotel. Their plan is not well thought out and in trying to swindle the ledgers from Capone; they head straight into a trap. The good news is that Capone comes back...

The Knick: “The Golden Lotus”

The Knick: “The Golden Lotus”

Misery loves company. In every corner of this episode, people’s lives were unraveling; despair was potent and uncertainty palpable. Words escape me; I say this in the best possible way to describe it, because this episode did not disappoint. Every action has its share of consequences and the staff at the Knick are finding out just how badly things have become. Thackeray, at his lowest level of debauchery, is arrested for stealing cocaine from a pharmacy. If it wasn’t for his very wealthy benefactor, August Robertson, he would’ve been sitting in a dank jail cell somewhere, rotting away. Not only does Augustus pay off the police...

Movie Review: Rush

Movie Review: Rush

If you love high adrenaline racing, gorgeous women, international locales and a healthy dose of competition, than this is the movie for you. Rush is a movie that chronicles the real life racing competition between James Hunt from England and Niki Lauda from Austria. My husband is a race car enthusiast and showed me pictures and footage from the races and I have to say that whoever was in charge of casting the two males leads did a splendid job. Chris Hemsworth brings a cocky swagger to Hunt’s character, while Daniel Bruhl brings a detail oriented and strict work ethic approach to Lauda’s character. The movie starts with a voice over...
