Alan Ball will not run True Blood Season 6

By Jacob Klein on Feb 28, 2012 to True Blood

Though HBO has not officially announced a sixth season of True Blood, if season 5 continues the trend of around 5 million viewers per episode, it’s hard to imagine the network canceling it any time soon.

Alan Ball has been the day-to-day ‘show runner’ of HBO’s hit Vampire series for each of it’s four season and is currently putting the finishing touches on this summer’s fifth installment.  “The plan for a potential Season 6 of True Blood was always that Alan would take a supervisory role on the series and not be the day-to-day show runner.”  The network said:  “If we proceed to season six, the show will remain in the very capable hands of the talented team of writers and producers who have been with the show for a number of years.”

Mr Ball will continue to produce programs for both HBO and Cinemax.  We look forward to seeing what the Academy Award winning writer of American Beauty has to offer the Premium Cable network!  Leave us a comment below (or a goodbye message for Alan) with your thoughts on this development.

True Blood was a great series until nearly every episode had some sort of homosexual act in it, it was almost like it was being forced on me. I will watch this summer to see if the new producer changes things up a bit, if not True Blood and HBO just lost a consumer.

  • i cant wait for the next season ,the only good thing on TV on Sunday nights is true blood so please keep it love where its going cant wait to find out the vampire who Soki belongs to tonight was awesome . and i think the magic is just beginning not fading

If the show continues to be as poor as it has been this season and the last, best to kill it off anyway. It’s been very erratic since season one, frankly, and it’s become downright absurd and comic-book like. Maybe ok for 16-year-olds, but not for the rest of us. Hammer in the wooden spike!

Please for the love of God make a season 6 and 7 and 8 and continue on from there if need be! I, along with my girlfriend/fiance absolutely LOVE True Blood. We can watch episode after episode almost everyday and be perfectly content and completely entertained. Props to ALL the cast of True Blood. Everyone is awesome! Please don’t take our True Blood away!

True Blood is the only reason I’m ordering HBO. If they cancel it, I am canceling my subscription! That’s how much I love the show! Alan Ball is an amazing talent! I’m glad he will be doing more. I do however worry whenever someone changes too many ingrediants in an already perfect recipe! True Blood Forever baby:)

I think this is good news, gives him room to focus his energy on other work. I think True Blood had a good premise, but it didn’t take too long for the magic to fade.

Six Feet Under on the other hand was quality all the way, so I’m interested in seeing what he comes up with next.

I only have HBO for two reasons ,I got it for Deadwood and kept it for Trueblood now I like Game of Thrones If they drop Trueblood they drop me as a customer!!!

    • Yeah we all hope they end it! Just have to wonder WHEN it’s going to – like all good things.

Terrific news, if you ask me. He’s far too talented to be running such an awful show. Hopefully, he’ll rediscover some of the magic that allowed him to make American Beauty and Six Feet Under.
